Lake Nokomis à Minneapolis

Lake Nokomis

Lake Nokomis is a popular recreational lake located in south Minneapolis, surrounded by parks, beaches, and walking trails. The name "Nokomis" means "grandmother" in Ojibwe, and the lake holds cultural significance for the Dakota and Ojibwe people. The lake was created in the early 20th century by dredging marshland, and the surrounding parks were developed in the 1920s and 1930s as part of a beautification project. Today, Lake Nokomis is a favorite destination for swimming, boating, fishing, and picnicking. The beaches are popular for sunbathing and sand volleyball, while the walking trails offer scenic views of the lake and wildlife watching opportunities.
